Pests We Treat Photo Album: Bad Sanitation lead to a Massive Fruit Fly Infestation in Toms River, NJ
The fruit flies took control of this restaurant in Toms River, NJ.
This Was Why
There were quite a lot of fruit flies in the kitchen area of this restaurant. The reason? Poor sanitation. There were a number of issues that contributed to the infestation, such as there were a pile of dirty rags left out in the open and there was a buildup of dirt and debris on the floor.
Left Out & Uncovered
The prep station was also dirty and a lot of the condiments were left open and not covered properly.
Not Stored Properly
There were also a number of food items weren't stored properly. Fruit flies are attracted to ripened fruits and vegetables in the kitchen or wherever food is allowed to rot and ferment. Although fruit flies can't bite or transmit any diseases, they can carry around bacteria from one place to another and contaminate food. Unfortunately, the owner had to throw all of these items away.
Solution for the Fruit Flies
After speaking to the owner, he and his staff immediately started cleaning the kitchen. In the meantime, we applied a liquid application in all the floor drains and then scrubbed them out with our heavy-duty scrubbing brush. Next, we applied a bio-foam solution that removes the organic build-up, odors, and scum inside all of the drains.
Last Few Treatments for Fruit Flies
After that, we treated the high infestation areas with a fly bait to control the adult fruit flies that were flying around and then installed several fruit fly traps. The attractant in the traps draws the fruit flies close and the bait inside the traps exterminates them within moments of contact. Lastly, we scheduled several follow-up visits to monitor the fruit fly activity and, if needed, apply any additional treatments.
