The Perfect Combo to Breed Fruit Flies in Peapack, NJ
Challenge
We were sent out to this restaurant in Peapack, NJ to handle a large fruit fly infestation in the kitchen and sink room. As we began inspecting the business, we quickly realized why there were so many fruit flies. There were several sanitation issues! A number of the floor drains haven't been cleaned in a long time and were filled or clogged with food debris, trash, and sugary liquids. We also found a large buildup of dirt, grease, and other sugary liquids underneath and behind the kitchen equipment and the trash bins were overflowing with garbage and haven't been taken out in a few days.
We showed the owner all of these sanitation issues and informed them that to get rid of the fruit flies, and prevent other pest infestations, all of these dirty areas must be cleaned and kept clean. We were very happy that he took our advise seriously and started to address these issues.
Solution
As they were cleaning we applied a liquid application in all the floor drains and then scrubbed them out with our heavy-duty scrubbing brush. Next, we applied a bio-foam solution that removes the organic build-up, odors, and scum in all the drains. The organic material in the drains is the breeding ground for the fruit flies and once that is gone, so will the fruit flies. Afterward, we treated the high infestation areas with a fly bait to control the adult fruit flies and installed several fruit fly traps. The attractant in the traps draws the fruit flies close and the bait inside the traps exterminates them within moments of contact. In a short amount of time, the fruit flies will be gone for good.
