Gunk & Grease in the Floor Drains
As we inspected the restaurant, we noticed that almost every single one of the floor drains were clogged, overflowing with water & debris, and full of drain flies and their larvae! Drain flies are small, dark-winged, non-biting gnats that thrive in drains because of the fats, oils, and greases that go down every drain. The drain flies use this buildup as a food source, breeding ground, and habitat all in one. As long as there are fats, oils, and greases in the drain, drain flies will continue multiplying.
Debris & Food Under the Equipment
As we continued with our inspection, we found several other sanitation issues, like grease and food buildup on the walls behind & underneath the kitchen equipment, old food left out and not covered probably...
This Could Lead to Other Pest Problems
...and old, dirty cups covering the tops of liquor bottles. We spoke to the owner and mentioned that if these sanitation issues aren't addressed and handled ASAP then he could experience other pest infestations in his business, like cockroaches, rodents, or fruit flies.
A New Cleaning Procedure
The owner agreed, spoke with his staff, and instituted a new cleaning protocol. In the meantime, we applied a liquid application in all the floor drains and then scrubbed them out. This treatment is going to eliminate the bad bacteria inside the drains that the drain flies breed in. Once that's eliminated, so will the drain flies.
Targeting & Eliminating the Drain Flies
After that, we applied a bio-foam solution in all of the floor drains. This is going to remove all of the organic build-up, odors, and scum inside the drains as well as eliminate the drain flies and their larvae. Once we finished we scheduled several return visits to keep an eye on the drain fly infestation and, if necessary, apply some additional treatments.
