Trail of Acrobat Ants Crawling Outside of the Business in Neptune, NJ
Challenge
Recently, we were sent out on a service call for a business in Neptune, NJ to treat for ants. When we arrived, we observed the ants crawling all over the left exterior side of the property. We took a closer look and identified them as acrobat ants. Acrobat ants are relatively small, only about one-eighth of an inch and vary in color from light brown to black. They're called acrobat ants due to the fact that they acrobatically arch their abdomen over their thorax when agitated. They can easily be identified by their heart-shaped abdomen.
Acrobat ants are a wood-nesting ant and are attracted to soft, moist water-damaged wood and seldom tunnel into dry, sound wood. Continuing our inspection we discovered that the acrobat ants were actually nesting inside one of the exterior window sills.
Solution
First, we flushed the ants out of hiding with a knockdown aerosol application and then treated the entire exterior of the property with a liquid non-repellant application. Lastly, we treated the landscape with a granular bait. The worker acrobat ants will come in contact with these products, return to their colony, and transfer the treatments throughout their nest by feeding one another, grooming one another, or eating their own dead. In a short amount of time, the acrobat ants will be neutralized.
