Wooden Logs Harboring Termite Swarmers in Waretown, NJ
Challenge
During a startup treatment service for a new Home Protection Plan client in Waretown, NJ we found a pile of firewood that was stored right up against the side of the home. Our pest control senses went off, so we decided to take a closer look at that area. Good thing we did, because we found hundreds of termite swarmers!
Termite swarmers are winged adult reproductives in which termite colonies send out in search of a hospitable area. Seeing termite swarmers outside is a strong warning sign because it means a mature, established colony is nearby and looking to expand!
Solution
With the customer's permission, we injected a liquid termiticide around the entire exterior of the home. This treatment binds to the treated areas and creates a protective zone that the termites can't detect. As the termites go about their business, they'll come in contact with the termiticide and bring it back to their colony. The termites will then transfer the termiticide throughout their nest and, shortly after, they will be exterminated.
Once we finished with that treatment, with the owner's permission, we installed Sentricon® termite bait stations around the entire exterior of the home. Once the termites consume the cellulose material, they'll go back to their nest and share it with their colony members.
