The Builder's Gap Allows Squirrels to Infest Home in Beachwood, NJ
A number of squirrels were exploiting the builder's gap of this property in Beachwood, NJ and infesting the home. A builders gap is the gap between the fascia board (where the gutter is hung) and roof decking. This gap is caused when roof decking is stopped too short and is not flush with the fascia. The gap is meant to help with airflow throughout the attic, but is also the perfect place for nuisance wildlife to enter your home!
After safely retrieving and relocating all the squirrels out of this home, we excluded the area with Pest-Blok. Pest-Blok is a sturdy material that undergoes a silicone-protected polyester coating process, which makes it last longer. It doesn't restrict the airflow to the attic & guards the home against all types of nuisance wildlife. Now the builder's gap is properly secured and the squirrels, as well as birds & bats, are excluded from the area.
Dig Defense® Stops Opossum From Residing Underneath Shed in Beachwood, NJ
A new customer in Beachwood, NJ, called Little Rascals after spotting an opossum walking across her yard and going underneath her shed! In order to safely retrieve the opossum, we installed a positive set and then installed Dig Defense® around the entire shed.
A positive set is comprised of a nose cone that is attached to a two-gaited, heavy-duty device. The nose cone will safely guide the opossum into the device. It's called a positive set, because we are positive that the opossum will enter the device. Dig Defense® is a below-ground fence system that is 15 inches deep, 4 feet across, and protects structures against opossums, skunks, groundhogs, and other nuisance wildlife!
In a short amount of time, we successfully retrieved the opossum and relocated it to a humane environment. We then removed our device, filled in the burrow, and installed another portion of Dig Defense®.
Family of Squirrels Nesting in Exterior Shower in Long Beach Island, NJ
This homeowner in Long Beach Island, NJ had a family of squirrels nesting in the exterior shower ceiling of his property. So he called Little Rascals for help and we were sent out. After inspecting the area, we immediately noticed a large opening around the pylon. So we installed a one-way device over that access point, enclosed the area off with hardware cloth temporarily, and then set up several baited devices nearby. The one-way will allow the squirrels to leave the area but prevent them from returning.
After a short period of time, we successfully retrieved the entire family of squirrels and took them to a new, safer location. To prevent any future nuisance wildlife intrusions in this area, we installed sturdy white metal flashing to blend in with the pylon.
No More Squirrels Will Get Into the Attic in Lanoka Harbor, NJ
A few squirrels had squeezed through the gable vent of this home in Lanoka Harbor, NJ and were making a huge mess in the attic! Since the spaces in the gable vent were wide and unprotected, this was how the squirrels were able get into the home. A short while after setting up our retrieval devices, we safely retrieved all the squirrels and took them to a new, humane location.
After that we disinfected the attic, went to our trucks, fashioned some Pest-Blok, and installed it over the gable vent. Pest-Blok doesn't restrict the airflow, undergoes a silicone-protected polyester coating process that makes it last longer, and guards the gable vent against squirrels, bats, and all nuisance wildlife. The gable vent is now properly excluded from squirrels.
Small Opening Under the Soffit Return Leads to a Raccoon Problem in Lincroft, NJ
After spotting a raccoon roaming around his roof one evening, this client in Lincroft, NJ called Little Rascals for help. As we inspected the roof, we noticed an area of the soffit return that seemed to be damaged, so we took a closer look. Upon closer inspection, we determined that the area wasn't damaged but left unfinished and exposed. We also found raccoon paw prints and hair around the area. We informed the owner who had no idea that the area was left unfinished!
First, we installed a one-way over the opening and temporarily enclosed it with hardware cloth. We also placed several baited devices nearby. The one-way device is designed to allow the raccoons to safely leave the area but prevent them from getting back in. A short while later we successfully retrieved the raccoons and safely relocated them to a new, humane environment.
We then fashioned a piece of sturdy, metal flashing and installed over the access point, to prevent any future wildlife intrusions.
