Wildlife Removal Photo Album: Putting a Stop to the Groundhogs Harboring Under the Shed in Rumson, NJ
Here's how we're going to stop the groundhogs from residing under this customer's shed in Rumson, NJ.
The Area in Question
The shed was currently providing a shelter to multiple groundhogs.
Groundhog Burrows
As we found multiple burrows around the shed. Groundhog burrows are typically identified by a large mound of dirt near a 10-12 inch diameter hole, which serves as the main entrance. These burrows often have multiple entrances, potentially up to five, including the main one.
An Effective Plan
Groundhogs under a shed can cause significant damage, primarily by undermining the shed's foundation and creating a tripping hazard. Their burrows weaken the soil, potentially leading to foundation instability and even collapse. To solve this issue, we installed a positive set over the burrows and then started installing Dig Defense® around the entire perimeter of the shed.
What Exactly is a Positive Set?
A positive set is a device that's comprised of a nose cone that is attached to a two-gaited, heavy-duty device. The nose cone will guide the groundhogs safely into the heavy-duty device. It's called a positive set, because we are positive that the groundhogs will enter the devices!
Another Device Nearby
We also placed another baited device nearby.
The Info On Dig Defense®
Dig Defense® is a below-ground fence system that is 15 inches deep, 4 feet across, and protects structures against all nuisance wildlife!
The Last Thing
Once we retrieve the groundhogs, we're going to relocate them to a new, humane environment, fill in all the burrows, and then install another portion of Dig Defense® over the burrows by the shed.
