Wildlife Removal Case Studies: Full attic sanitize, deodorize and install of new insulation in Sea Girt, NJ

Monday, October 17th, 2016 by Michael Senz

After our Nuisance Wildlife team performed a wildlife exclusion in a home in Sea Girt, they still were left with a toxic mess, and soiled insulation.

For this particular insulation job, we first removed all of the contaminated insulation, carefully bagging and removing it  from there attic, taking special care to not further “kick up” and spread any dangerous animal droppings. Droppings are hazardous materials and personal protective equipment much be used. After tearing-out the existing insulation, we then vacuumed, sanitized, and deodorized the entire attic until all remnants of a wildlife infestation were gone.

With the attic cleaned, we were ready to put in new insulation. Cowleys is licensed to install TAP Pest Control Insulation. TAP, which stands for Thermal, Acoustical, and Pest Control, offers superior thermal and acoustical (sound-deadening) properties as well as a pest control component. The paper fibers are treated with a borate solution that is harmless to people, but lethal to many insects including ants, beetles, and termites. We blew in 10" of fresh new TAP insulation, leaving enough room for the homeowners to access the attic platform. Ten inches of TAP translates to a 40 R-value, which means a well-insulated attic that can handle any of New Jersey’s temperatures. By increasing the efficiency of the home’s HVAC system, the homeowners will see noticeable reductions in their heating and cooling bills.
