A Lot of Digger Bees
There were a ton of digger bees mounds throughout the yard. Considering the homeowner just paid a lot of money for landscaping, he wasn't too happy seeing them.
Also Called Ground Bees
Digger bees, also called ground bees, are roughly 1/4 to 1/2 inch long and typically nest in areas of the landscape where the grass is sparse or very thin. The female digger bees "dig" nests into the ground that are about 1/2 of an inch deep.
One Colony Per Mound
You'll realize you have a digger bee infestation when you find little mounds of soil with a pencil-sized hole in it. Digger bees are solitary bees that live one colony per hole, but there may be many holes in an area creating a digger bee community.
Not Aggressive At All
Digger bees are not aggressive at all and as long as you don't step on them or grab them, they won't attack you. However, the venom from a digger bee sting is strong enough to cause a severe allergic reaction in some people, so tread carefully.
Two Types of Treatments
We treated every single digger bee mound with a granular bait. Afterward, we injected a residual dusting application into each one. Both of these treatments will quickly neutralize the digger bees.
