We immediately began to inspect the play set (where the insects were spotted) to take a look at these pests and identify them. As soon as we got close, we immediately knew that these were termite swarmers.
Searching for Hospitable Area
Termite swarmers winged adult reproductives in which termite colonies send out in search of a hospitable area. Unlike other termites in a colony, swarmers are attracted to light. Termite swarmers have two pairs of wings that are the same length (which is how you tell the difference between them and other pest swarmers). Their antennae are straight, opposed to ants that have bent antennae, and their waist section is also not pinched like ants.
A Strong Warning
Seeing termite swarmers outside is a strong warning sign. It means a mature, established colony is nearby (typically within 100 feet) and looking to expand. After talking with the owner, he opted in for a thorough termite treatment. So we drilled around the entire exterior of the home and injected a liquid termiticide into each one of the drill holes.
Can't Detect the Zone
This treatment binds to the treated areas and creates a protective zone that the termites can't detect. As the termites go about their business, they'll come in contact with the termiticide and bring it back to their colony.
Proactive Termite Treatments
The termites will then transfer the termiticide throughout their nest and, shortly after, they will be exterminated . Once we're done treating the home, we made sure to properly plug up all the drill holes.
