Digger Bees Pop Up All Over in East Brunswick, NJ
Challenge
A new customer in East Brunswick, NJ called our office complaining of hundreds of "large flying bees" throughout his backyard - so we were sent out to inspect and treat. Once we arrived and took a look, we found a massive infestation of digger bees throughout the backyard and along the side of the home. Digger bees, also called ground bees, are roughly 1/4 to 1/2 inch long and vary in color (mostly shiny metallic or dark, but some with markings of white, yellow or reddish-brown). Their nests are usually located in areas of the landscape where the grass is sparse or very thin. The first sign of digger bees infesting lawns are little mounds of soil with a hole nearby and digger bees flying over the area.
Despite their large appearance, they're pretty non-aggressive and usually only sting if they are being stepped on. In fact, a sting from a digger bee is a lot less painful than the sting of a yellow jacket!
Solution
We injected a residual dusting application in every single one of the digger bee mounds and applied a granular bait throughout the area. These treatments will exterminate the digger bees quickly.
