Raccoon Slide Under the Attic Fan in Sayreville, NJ

Recently, we were sent out to a home in Sayreville, NJ to handle a potential infestation of raccoons in the attic. As we started inspecting the property, we noticed that the attic fan was damaged. We took a closer look and found raccoon paw prints nearby and hair stuck in the attic fan. First, we installed a temporary attic fan cover over the attic fan and attached a two-gaited, heavy-duty device to it. The raccoons will have no other way to exit the area, except through our device, which will safely retrieve the raccoon. We also placed several baited traps nearby.

A short while later, we safely retrieved all the raccoons and safely relocated them to a new, humane environment. We then disinfected the attic and installed a sturdy attic fan cover over the attic fan. The attic fan cover is made of heavy-duty 18 Gauge expanded Galvannealed steel mesh and will prevent raccoons, as well as all nuisance wildlife, from gaining access into the home via the attic fan.

Time to Keep the Raccoons Out in Metuchen, NJ

Raccoons had invaded the attic of this home in Metuchen, NJ, and Little Rascals is here to safely get them out! As we inspected the property we came across a damaged area of the Pac Man (also called a soffit return). We took a closer and found raccoon paw prints around the area as well as raccoon hair stuck in the opening. This is how the raccoons were infesting the home, by ripping apart the soffit return!

First, we installed a one-way device over the access point, temporarily enclosed it with hardware cloth, and setup several baited devices nearby. A one-way is a device that allows the raccoons to safely leave the area but is designed to prevent them from getting back in the same way! After a short while, we successfully retrieved all the raccoons! We then fashioned a piece of sturdy metal flashing and installed it over the damaged soffit return, to prevent any future raccoons or any other nuisance wildlife from getting back in via the Pac Man. Lastly, we are going to relocate the raccoons to a new, humane environment.

Removing an Active Bald-Faced Hornets Nest in Metuchen, NJ

We were sent out on a service call to home in Metuchen, NJ, to handle a hornet problem. Apparently the homeowner was attacked and stung by several angry hornets as soon as he opened his bedroom window. Once we arrived, we found an active bald-faced hornets nest underneath the soffit right above the master bedroom window!

Bald-faced hornets are social stinging insects that are a close relative to yellow jackets. The surface of their upper midsection almost looks triangular from the side, and they have white markings on their face. They build paper nests at least three or more feet off of the ground, usually in trees, shrubs, overhangs, houses, or other structures. One very important fact that you must know about bald-faced hornets is that they are EXTREMELY aggressive and will not hesitate to sting anything that invades their space.

For treatment, we injected a knockdown dusting application directly into the opening of the nest. This treatment rapidly neutralizes the bald-faced hornets. After a few moments went by, we removed the nest, disposed of it, and applied a residual application to the area that'll neutralize any returning bald-faced hornets and prevent any future stinging insects from building another nest.

Sealing Up a Potential Access Point for Mice in Old Bridge, NJ

During a routine service treatment for a new Home Protection Plan customer in Old Bridge, NJ we noticed a few openings around several utility pipes and utility wires around the exterior of the home. Although the homeowner didn't have any issues with mice in her home, if these gaps are left alone, it's only a matter of time until she does. Remember a mouse only needs an opening the width of a pencil to infest a home!

So we stuffed each and every opening with chew-proof stainless steel mesh, which mice hate to chew through. We then sealed them in place with a waterproof, premium adhesive. The combination of these two materials make for a great deterrent and the home is properly guarded against rodents.

Installing Door Sweeps to Keep Rodents Out in Freehold, NJ

This commercial building in Freehold, NJ was having an issue with pesky mice inside their delivery room, so the owner called Cowleys for help. Once we began investigating the area, we immediately noticed the large gap underneath the door that lead outside. This was how the mice were getting into the building!

For treatment, we vacuumed up all the mice dropping and then installed a rodent bait station in the delivery room, the adjacent room, and along the exterior of the building. Next, we installed an Xcluder™ door sweep underneath the delivery room door. The Xcluder™ door sweep is made from a blend of coarse stainless steel and poly fibers to form a highly resilient and impenetrable barrier. Lastly, we scheduled several follow up visits to monitor the infestation and replenish the bait stations as needed.
