Flying Squirrels Exploit Builder's Gap in South Amboy, NJ
A homeowner in South Amboy, NJ noticed a flying squirrel roaming around is attic and immediately contacted Little Rascals for help! Several moments into our inspection of the exterior of the home, we found out how the flying squirrels got in - through the builder's gap! A builders gap is the gap between the fascia board (where the gutter is hung) and roof decking. This gap is caused when roof decking is stopped too short and is not flush with the fascia. The gap is meant to help with airflow throughout the attic, but is also the perfect place for wildlife to gain access into a home.
To retrieve the flying squirrel, we installed Pest-Blok over the entire length of the builder's gap except for one area. Over that access area, we installed a retrieval device and then set up a baited device nearby. Pest-Blok doesn't restrict the airflow, undergoes a silicone-protected polyester coating process (that makes it last longer), and guards the builder's gap against flying squirrels, bats, and all nuisance wildlife. A short while later, we successfully retrieved the flying squirrel and took it to a safer location. We then disinfected the attic and installed another portion of Pest-Blok over that entry point.
