Crawl Space Encapsulation Photo Album: Filthy Crawl Gets Organized & Encapsulate in Bedminster, NJ
Messy, Dirty, & Humid
The insulation in the crawl was saturated with moisture and falling down, the humidity levels were extremely high, and there was debris everywhere.
The Major Issue with Dirt Floor Crawl Spaces
The problem with dirt floor crawl spaces is that they attract and absorb moisture. Once the dirt dries, it causes humidity levels to rise and can lead to mold and mildew issues. First, we removed all the debris and old insulation, leveled the ground for proper draining, and installed drainage matting.
Vapor Barrier & ComfortTherm®
Next, we installed a vapor barrier, which is a heavy-duty, 20-mil 7-ply sandwich of high and low-density polyethylene with a polyester-cord reinforcement. It cannot tear and is extremely durable and is also treated with an antimicrobial to prevent mold. We then installed ComfortTherm® Insulation throughout the crawl space. ComfortTherm® Insulation is poly-encapsulated and is ideal for moisture-rich crawl space environments. The insulation also helps to preserve the air quality, reduce energy costs, provide excellent temperature and noise control, and comes with a vapor-retarder for use in hot, humid climates.
Seal the Old Vents with SilverGlo™
We then sealed off all the old crawl space vents with SilverGlo™ which is a waterproof foam insulation that seals the walls from outside moisture and humidity.
The Sedona Dehumidifier
We also installed a Sedona dehumidifier to control the high humidity levels in the crawl space. This is a powerful, energy-efficient, commercial-grade dehumidifier that outperforms standard household dehumidifiers by as much as 10 times while using the same amount of energy to run.
Installed Everlast™ Door
Finally, we installed an Everlast™ door to replace the damaged wooden door to the crawl space. An Everlast™ door is made from ½-in.-thick PVC plastic that will never warp, crack, shrink, require maintenance or painting and will prevent any unwanted pests and moisture from entering the crawl space.
