Bird Control Services Photo Album: Sparrows Nesting in the Gazebo in Brick, NJ
The sparrows were nesting all throughout this customer's gazebo in Brick, NJ.
Heavy Sparrow Nesting
Throughout the gazebo, we a number of sparrow nests.
Failed Exclusion by Homeowner
The homeowner had recently installed bird spikes to prevent the sparrows from roosting throughout the area, but that didn't work. The bird spikes failed against the sparrows because the spacing between the prongs is too wide for their tiny bodies, allowing them to comfortably perch and build nests right between the metal rods.
Disinfect First
So we carefully removed all of the sparrow nests and then treated the entire gazebo with a solution that eliminates bird mites. Bird mites are parasites that feed on the blood of birds. When the sparrows leave their nests (or if they nests have been removed without properly disinfecting the area) the mites are left behind without a suitable host for their next blood meal and make their way into a home to feed on the family.
Optic Gel for the Win
Afterward, we installed optical gel throughout the gazbeo. Optical gel is a multi-sensory bird repellant that deters birds using sight, smell, and touch. As a visual deterrent, the birds see a UV spectrum that, to them, looks like fire or smoke (although there isn't any).
The Other Two Senses
As a smell deterrent, the optical gel gives off a cayenne pepper or peppermint odor that the birds hate; and as a touch deterrent, the optical gel has a tacky feel to it that the birds dislike. By targeting all three senses, the optic gels will condition the sparrows to stay away.
