Yellow Jackets Found in the Ground in Middletown, NJ

As we were treating this commercial property in Middletown, NJ we noticed some yellow jackets hovering around an area on the lawn. We took a closer look and discovered that the yellow jackets had an in-ground nest in this area!

Yellow jackets construct paper-like nests underground that may contain thousands of larvae and adult workers! Foraging ground-nesting yellow jacket workers could come in contact with people who hangout in their backyard or are just mowing their lawn and (since yellow jackets are territorial) attack the unsuspecting victims over and over again!

For treatment, we injected a residual dusting application directly into the burrow. This application neutralizes the yellow jackets almost immediately. A few moments later, we dug up the nest, disposed of it properly, and then filled in the burrow.

Yellow Jackets in the Ceiling in Island Heights, NJ

This was a scary situation for this homeowner in Island Heights, NJ. Yellow jackets were pouring out of her bathroom ceiling! She immediately called Cowleys for help and we were sent out. After we equipped our protective bee suit, we entered the bathroom and started treatment. First, we injected a knockdown aerosol application and then applied a knockdown dusting product. Both of these applications are going to exterminate the yellow jackets quickly.

After some time had passed, we removed the nest and disposed of it properly.

Replacing the Crawl Space Door with an Everlast™ in Island Heights, NJ

Our Crawl Space Solutions team was sent out to a home in Island Heights, NJ to replace a broken crawl space door. Broken or damaged crawl space doors create significant issues, including moisture intrusion leading to mold and wood rot, pest infestations (like rodents or termites), energy loss, and structural damage from water or humidity. These issues often result in increased energy bills, poor air quality, and, in severe cases, sagging floors and foundation problems.

To fix that, we removed the broken crawl space door and replaced it with an Everlast™ door. An Everlast™ door is made from ½-in.-thick PVC plastic that will never warp, crack, shrink, require maintenance or painting and will prevent any unwanted pests and moisture from entering the crawl space.

Groundhogs Digging Around the Shed & Harboring Underneath It in Allenwood, NJ

After her daughter spotted a groundhog running across the yard and then going underneath the shed, this homeowner in Allenwood, NJ, called our Nuisance Wildlife Division for help. In order to safely retrieve the groundhog, we installed Dig Defense® around the entire perimeter of the shed except for one area, which was the main burrow. Dig Defense® is a below-ground fence system that is 15 inches deep, 4 feet across, and protects structures against invasive nuisance wildlife and feral animals.

Afterward, we installed a positive set over the main burrow. A positive set is comprised of a nose cone that is attached to a two-gaited, heavy-duty device. It's called a positive set, because we are positive that the groundhog will enter our device. Once we safely retrieve the groundhog, we will relocate it to a new, humane location, fill in the burrow, and install another portion of Dig Defense® over the main burrow.

A Nasty & Dirty Crawl Space Gets Encapsulated in Allenwood, NJ

This homeowners crawl space in Allenwood, NJ, was in bad shape. The insulation was falling down (due to moisture) and the humidity levels were incredibly high! Fortunately, there was no signs of mold or mildew. So the first thing we did was remove all the contaminated insulation and level the ground for proper drainage. Next, we installed a drainage matting, which is a dimpled plastic mat that allows all excess moisture to work its way over to the sum pump.

After that was done, we installed a vapor barrier. A vapor barrier is a heavy-duty, 20-mil 7-ply sandwich of high and low-density polyethylene with a polyester-cord reinforcement. The vapor barrier is also extremely durable and is treated with an antimicrobial to prevent mold. Afterward, we installed SilverGlo™ on the walls of the crawl space. SilverGlo™ is a waterproof foam insulation that seals the walls from outside moisture and humidity.

Next, we installed new ComfortTherm® insulation throughout the crawl space. ComfortTherm® insulation provides excellent temperature and noise control, and comes with a vapor-retarder for use in hot, humid climates. Lastly, to control the humidity levels in the crawl space, we installed a Sedona dehumidifier. This is a powerful, energy-efficient, commercial-grade dehumidifier that outperforms standard household dehumidifiers by as much as 10 times while using the same amount of energy to run! Now the homeowners have a clean and healthy crawl space as well as an additional area in their home for storage.
