Rodent Control Mission in South Amboy, NJ

I was sent to a commercial facility in South Amboy, NJ to start a rodent control program. Like many other homes and businesses in South Amboy, this facility is situated near the Raritan River, a  major New Jersey river that drains to the Raritan Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. These wetland areas are one of the most productive habitats for mammals, birds, and other wildlife. Unfortunately, this includes nuisance rodents like mice and rats. All too often, they will seek food and housing in nearby buildings. Our structures are especially inviting for and mothers about to give birth that are seeking out private, quiet locations away from predators to raise their young.

The most important way to prevent rodent infestations is by taking advantage of rodent exclusion services offered by a professional pest control service. Keeping these disease-carrying pests out is far preferable than the alternative of dealing with an active rodent infestation, not to mention the accompanying clean-up and damage that these animals can cause.

We see many types of wildlife invading homes and other structures. They are attracted to human habitats for the same reasons we are — warmth, food, and housing. With larger nuisance animals like squirrels and raccoons, the access points are usually readily identifiable. Rats and mice however, because of their diminutive size, present a different challenge. These animals are able to squeeze through the smallest of holes and gaps. In fact, to gain access inside a structure, rat only needs a gap about the size of a quarter, and a tiny mouse needs far smaller — about the size of a dime. As a general rule, if a mouse or rat is able to poke its head inside a hole, the rest of its body will follow.

With a rodent exclusion, we will inspect a structure for droppings and other telltale signs of rodent activity. Based on their activity, we will identify potential entry points, and seal them so they can’t gnaw or claw their way back inside. The accompanying video shows how a professional pest control technician properly identifies and seals rodent entry points. While it is next to impossible to make any building completely impervious to rodent activity, exclusion work will go a long way in significantly keeping down a rodent populations and will discourage them from trying to enter. Rodents take the path of least resistance. If a home or business owner makes it difficult for them to find a means of access, they will go elsewhere. Avoiding rodent infestations is a whole lot easier and less stressful than getting rid of them!
