Photo Album: Expensive Rug Destroyed by Clothing Web Moths in Holmdel, NJ
I went out on a service call for a homeowner in Holmdel, NJ who was being plagued by little moths flying around his living room.
Moved the Furniture And...
I checked underneath the furniture and found a large number of clothing web moths. When I moved the furniture off the wool rug, I found an area of the rug that was damaged by the clothing web moths.
About Clothing Web Moths
Normally we find these moths in closet areas when the larvae attack natural fibers such as wool or cashmere sweaters. The females carefully place their eggs deep in the mesh of the infested fabric by attaching the eggs with a glue they secrete.
Time to Treat
The homeowner mentioned that he will dispose of the expensive rug. As he removed the rug, I treated the entire interior of the home with a liquid residual that'll eliminate the clothing web moths.
Cowleys Will Be Back
I set up several glue monitor traps and scheduled a follow-up inspection to monitor the infestation and, if needed, apply any additional treatment.
