TruSoft Blown-In Cellulose Insulation Added to an Old Attic in Warren, NJ
A new customer in Warren, NJ contacted our Attic Systems division to add new blown-in cellulose insulation to his attic space and we were sent out. First, we removed all of the old insulation and other debris in the attic and properly disposed of them.
Afterward, we then disinfected the entire area and air sealed all the gaps and cracks in the attic in order to eliminate air flow between the living space and the attic. Doing this greatly improves energy efficiency in the attic. We then placed several measuring markers throughout the attic to ensure that the proper amount of R-value is added to the area.
After all that, we added over 10 inches of TruSoft blown-in cellulose insulation throughout the attic. Adding TruSoft fills the attic to its recommended insulation levels and maximizes home comfort for the owner. TruSoft also has the highest Class-1 fire safety rating, is resistant to mold and pests, is eco-friendly, and optimizes energy usage for year-round peace and savings!
Installing a Louvered Vent Guard to Keep the Bats out in Cranbury, NJ
Recently, several Nuisance Wildlife technicians were sent out to a property in Cranbury, NJ to safely remove several bats that had infested the attic. As soon as we arrived, we immediately spotted there entry point - the gable vent! It was wide open and little damaged from the elements. To safely remove the bats from the home, we installed a bat cone over the gable vent and temporarily enclosed the area off with hardware cloth. A bat cone is designed to let the bats safely leave the attic but prevent them from getting back in. As a matter of fact, a short while after setting this up, all the bats were removed from the home.
After disinfecting the area, we went back to our trucks, fashioned a louvered vent guard and installed it over the gable vent. The louvered vent guard is made out of heavy-duty Galvannealed steel, which means that not only is it durable, but it also won't rust. Additionally, it is customized to accommodate vents of all shapes and sizes and properly secures the area from bats as well as squirrels, raccoons, and nuisance birds.
Gap on the Side of Garage Door Allows Rats Into the Home in Hightstown, NJ
We've returned to this home in Hightstown, NJ to check up on the rat activity as well as replenish all of our rodent bait stations throughout the property. After refilling all of the bait stations, we're going to seal up the main access point for the rats - which was a wide opening on the side of the garage.
First, we stuffed the opening with chew-proof copper mesh, which rats hate the taste and feel of. Next, we sealed it in place with a premium, waterproof adhesive. We're going to repeat this process to any and every single gap and opening around the home to prevent all rodents from invading the home.
Condo Experiencing Problem with Starlings in Hightstown, NJ
Several technicians from of our Bird Solutions Division were sent out to a condominium association in Hightstown, NJ to remove some starlings that had infested a number of units. Starlings have a reputation of being the most annoying and common home-invading birds in the US. Starlings are stocky black birds with short tails, triangular wings, and long, pointed bills. They nest in holes and cavities and often use holes in buildings — primarily dryer or exhaust vents.
Sure enough, when we inspected the exterior of the building, we discovered that the starlings were invading the units by squeezing through a number of damaged and weathered exhaust vents. In order to safely remove them from the property, we disinfected several of the exhaust vents and installed a DryerWallVent® over all of them except for the most active one. Over that one we installed a customized one-way over it and temporarily enclosed the area off with hardware cloth. This will allow the starlings to leave the area safely but prevent them from getting back in. After a short period of time, all of the starlings had been removed from the condo unit. We then disinfected that exhaust vent and installed a DryerWallVent® over it.
The DryerWallVent® is made out of heavy-duty galvanized steel and its large opening and angled damper provide maximum airflow efficiency for safe venting. Integrated magnets keep the damper closed when not in use - preventing birds, pests, bats, and all nuisance wildlife from infesting the condo units.
Repairing the Woodpecker Damage in Dunellen, NJ
After seeing the amount of damage that woodpeckers were doing to his home, this customer in Dunellen, NJ called Bird Solutions by Cowleys for help and we were sent out. The cost of repairing woodpecker damage can be high and most homeowners' insurance doesn't cover it, since it is considered to be preventable!
First, we focused on the damaged areas and stuffed each one of the holes made by the woodpeckers with stainless steel mesh and then sealed them with waterproof adhesive. Once we that was done we installed sturdy metal flashing over the damaged areas. Lastly, since the homeowner had some leftover paint, we painted over each piece of metal flashing so that it blends in with the color of the home.
Now we need to make sure that the woodpeckers don't come back! In order to accomplish that, we installed an Intimidator in several locations around the entire exterior of the home. The Intimidator reflects the suns rays as the wind spins it around and gives off Ultra Violet "flashes" (ultra violet is a color that birds can see but humans can not). The woodpeckers will relate the UV flashes as a danger and stay away. This is a humane and effective visual deterrent to keep the woodpeckers away from the property as well as prevent them from causing any further damage to the home.
