Need to Keep the Raccoons Out in Shrewsbury, NJ

Need to Keep the Raccoons Out in Shrewsbury, NJ

Need to Keep the Raccoons Out in Shrewsbury, NJ Need to Keep the Raccoons Out in Shrewsbury, NJ

This homeowner in Shrewsbury, NJ had a raccoon rip apart his weathered gable vent and make a new home in his attic! Previously, we safely retrieved the raccoon and relocated it to a new, humane environment. Afterward, we disinfected the entire attic and removed all the contaminated insulation. In regards to replacing his insulation, the homeowner wanted our Contracting team to come out and reinsulate the attic with new blown-in cellulose insulation

In order to prevent any future raccoons from reinfesting the home, we removed the old, broken gable vent and replaced it with a louvered vent guard. This material is made of heavy-duty Galvannealed steel (which means it won't rust) and is customized to accommodate vents of all shapes and sizes. Now the home is properly protected from raccoons, as well as all nuisance wildlife!

Eliminating a Bald-Faced Hornets Nest in Shrewsbury, NJ

During a scheduled summer service for a Home Protection Plan customer in Shrewsbury, NJ, we found a large bald-faced hornets nest next to the downspout. Bald-faced hornets are social stinging insects that are a close relative to yellow jackets. The surface of their upper midsection almost looks triangular from the side, and they have white markings on their face.

For treatment, we grabbed our extendable pole, attached a knockdown liquid product to it, and then treated the nest with it. This application exterminates the bald-faced hornets almost immediately. Once the hornets were eliminated, we attached a scraper to the pole and removed the nest. We then disposed of the nest properly and treated the area with a residual application to exterminate any returning hornets as well as prevent them from rebuilding a nest.

Job Stories From Shrewsbury, NJ
Opening in the Fascia Allows Squirrel to Infest Home in Shrewsbury, NJ

While one of our Pest Control technicians was treating this home in Shrewsbury, NJ, he saw a squirrel climb up the downspout and enter the attic via a small hole in the fascia board. He informed the owner, she contacted Little Rascals, and we were sent out. As we inspected the area, we noticed that the particular area of the fascia board was never properly sealed up!

First, we installed a one-way device over that opening and temporarily enclosed it off with hardware cloth. We also set up several baited devices nearby. One-way device is designed to allow the squirrel to leave the area safely but prevent it from getting back in. After a short period of time, we successfully retrieved the squirrel and relocated it to a new, humane environment. Lastly, we removed the hardware cloth and installed sturdy, metal flashing over that access point to prevent any future intrusions from squirrels, as well as birds and other nuisance wildlife

Bald-Faced Hornets Hanging Above the Playset in Shrewsbury, NJ

This homeowner in Shrewsbury, NJ, was getting her home ready for a family BBQ when she noticed something above her kids playset, an active bald-faced hornets nest! As the party was hours away, she quickly searched for a reputable pest control company, found Cowleys, gave us a call, and we were sent out to eliminate these aggressive stinging insects.

After equipping our protective bee suit, since the nest was located in a branch about 15 feet from the ground, we grabbed our extendable pole, attached a knockdown aerosol application to it, and then liberally treated the nest. This treatment rapidly neutralizes the bald-faced hornets. A few moments later, we removed the nest (as well as the branches it was attached to) and disposed of it properly.

Attacked by Hornets While Trimming the Hedges in Shrewsbury, NJ

A new customer in Shrewsbury, NJ called our office after getting attacked and stung by several angry hornets while he was trimming his hedges. When we arrived, we equipped our protective bee suit and inspected the hedges. When we found the hornets nest, we were able to identify them as bald-faced hornets. Bald-faced hornets are extremely territorial and aggressive. If anything that they deem a threat comes within close proximity of their nest, they will attack!

We treated the nest with a knockdown aerosol and liquid application. Both products will exterminate the bald-faced hornets almost immediately. Once the hornets were eliminated, we removed the nest, and the branch it was attached to, and disposed of them.

Vigilance in Shrewsbury, NJ Keeps Ants Out

For one of our commercial accounts, an apartment building in Shrewsbury, NJ, I conduct weekly visits to monitor pest activity, perform periodic preventative treatments, and take care of any active infestations. The objective with our commercial accounts is to catch any infestations in their early stages and “nip it in the bud” so that a little pest problem does not grow into a big one. I work hard to keep the apartment buildings that I am responsible for pest free. There are few things that upset tenants more than discovering ants or other pests in their units. And as far as property managers are concerned, insect or rodent infestations are a big headache that they don’t need.

During my inspection, I observed ants crawling up the building to the second-story floor. I treated the outside foundation of the building as well as the common area before the ants actually invaded the apartments. This situation was a perfect example of dealing with an infestation in its early stages while still outdoors before the pests make it inside the structure. By catching this problem early, while the ants were still outdoors looking for a way inside the building, I was able to head off a potentially troublesome ant infestation before they had a chance to get inside the units.
