Time to Clean & Encapsulate the Crawl Space in Far Hills, NJ
We were sent out on a service call for a new customer in Far Hills, NJ to encapsulate their dirt-floor crawl space. The insulation in the crawl was saturated with moisture and falling down, the humidity levels were extremely high, and there was debris everywhere. The problem with dirt floor crawl spaces is that they attract and absorb moisture. Once the dirt dries, it causes humidity levels to rise and can lead to mold and mildew issues.
The first thing we did was remove all the debris and old insulation, level the ground for proper draining, and installed drainage matting. After that, we installed a vapor barrier. This is a heavy-duty, 20-mil 7-ply sandwich of high and low-density polyethylene with a polyester-cord reinforcement. It cannot tear and is extremely durable and is also treated with an antimicrobial to prevent mold.
We then sealed off all the old crawl space vents with SilverGlo™ which is a waterproof foam insulation that seals the walls from outside moisture and humidity. The last thing we did was install a Sedona dehumidifier to control the high humidity levels in the crawl space. This is a powerful, energy-efficient, commercial-grade dehumidifier that outperforms standard household dehumidifiers by as much as 10 times while using the same amount of energy to run.
