We returned to this commercial property in Bound Brook, NJ to check up on the Indian meal moth activity in the storage room.
Also known as pantry pests, Indian meal moths are the most common pests to infest pantries and food storage facilities. They have pale, grey wings, have a wingspan of about 5/8 of an inch, and are reddish-brown in color. They typically infest homes either from the outside or, most commonly, through stored food products purchased from a store or a warehouse. Adult females lay their eggs inside the food itself and once the eggs hatch, the infested food becomes contaminated and damaged by the larvae and will need to be discarded.
After noticing heavy activity on our monitoring devices, we treated all the cracks and crevices throughout the storage area with an aerosol application. This application rapidly exterminates the Indian meal moths. Next, we installed several pheromone traps to catch the adult Indian meal moths that were flying around. These devices have a unique pheromone in them that lures the Indian meal moths to their demise. Finally, we installed new monitoring devices and then scheduled some additional follow-up inspections to replace the devices, monitor the infestation, and apply any additional treatments if necessary.
