Here we are at a commercial property in Elizabeth, NJ dealing with pigeons roosting on the rafters. There were so many pigeons roosting on the dock that the work area became a health hazard because of the severe build of bird feces on the ground.

Bird droppings are an unsightly mess, cause slip-and-fall accidents, and harbor numerous human pathogens, such as Cryptococcosis, St. Louis Encephalitis, Candidiasis, or most notoriously Histoplasmosis. Histoplasmosis is a potentially fatal respiratory disease that derives from a fungus growing in dried bird droppings. Additionally, pigeons can harbor many different types of parasites, including bird mites. Bird mites are parasites that feed on the blood of birds. When birds leave their nests, the mites are left behind without a suitable host for their next blood meal. They will make their way into a home, and once inside they will take over, climbing all over your walls, ceilings, and beddings.  

First, we installed a bird netting. The bird netting removes their landing areas. The birds will fly in, realize they cannot land or roost anywhere, and then fly back out. After the bird netting was successfully installed, we completely sanitized the floor and removed the bird feces. Finally, we sanitized and deodorized the rafters with a product that specifically targets bird mites. Now all types of birds will no longer be able to roost in the loading dock.
