Full of Nesting Debris
...were loaded with nesting debris from the starlings. A bird's nest in a dryer vent is a severe fire hazard. Starlings use dry twigs, grass, and feathers that ignite easily. When combined with highly flammable lint and intense dryer heat, the blocked airflow forces the machine to overheat. This can also cause carbon monoxide buildup in gas dryers.
Remove All the Nests
First, we carefully removed all the nesting debris from every single one of the exhaust vents.
Target Any Bird Mites
Next, we disinfected each one with a solution that targets bird mites. Bird mites are parasites that feed on the blood of birds. When birds leave their nests, the mites are left behind without a suitable host for their next blood meal. They are tiny and semi-transparent, so bird mites are extremely difficult to detect and are the main reason why extreme care is needed when removing a bird's nest.
The Defender Installed
After all that was completed, we installed a Defender over each one of the exhaust vents. While allowing free-flowing air movement, the Defenders patented design effectively blocks intrusion by using a system of bars instead of a screen under the hood.
