Mold in the Attic
Previously, there was a leak in the attic that lead to a mold issue. Although the leak was repaired, mold had grown throughout the insulation.
Mold Treatment & Remove Insulation
Our mold team was sent out and removed the mold. Now we're here to remove all of the contaminated insulation and sanitize the attic.
Cover the Recessed Lights
Once all of the contaminated insulation was removed & the attic was sanitized, we installed Tight Shell Can Light Covers over all the recessed lights in the attic. These are made out of a fire resistant material and is specifically designed to stop unwanted air leakage through the recessed lights.
Air Sealing
After that was done we began air sealing all of the gaps and cracks in the attic. Doing this will eliminate the air flow between the living space and the attic, which improves energy efficiency.
Next Comes the Attic Hatch Cover
We then installed a reflective attic stairway insulator over the attic stairs. This functions by forming air spaces with layers of bubbles and reflective foils. These spaces restrict air movement which reduces heat flow by convection. Additionally, the reflectivity and low emissivity of each reflective layer also reflects away up to 96% of radiant heat!
Measuring Sticks Installed
We then placed several measuring sticks throughout the attic to ensure that the proper amount of R-value is added.
Finally, the TruSoft Blown-In Cellulose Insulation
Finally, we added over 12 inches of TruSoft blown-in cellulose insulation. Not only does this fill the attic to its recommended insulation levels, but TruSoft insulation maximizes home comfort, has the highest Class-1 fire safety rating, is resistant to mold and pests, is eco-friendly, and optimizes energy usage for year-round peace and savings for the homeowner!
