Local Exterminators in West Windsor, NJ

While performing a routine home protection service for a homeowner in West Windsor, NJ, I asked her if she had noticed any signs of insect or rodent infestations in or around her home. She mentioned to me that her son had gotten a “bee sting” while getting the mail, but she could not see any nests nearby. Stinging insects in or around mailboxes is obviously a hazard for both the homeowner and any family member who retrieves the mail not to mention the hardworking US Postal Service employees who work so hard delivering our mail!  I wanted to inspect the area in and around the mailbox to be sure that no nests had formed even though it was getting late in the year for stinging insects.

Sure enough, during my inspection, I found a small yellow jacket nest developing inside the mailbox. I don’t know what it is about mailboxes, but yellowjackets seem to be attracted to them. This was not the first time I’ve dealt with Yellowjackets or wasps in mailboxes, and other pest control technicians have seen the same problem. Yellowjackets are usually ground-nesters unlike paper wasps and baldfaced hornets that build their nests above ground. You’ll see them building nests in knots at the base of trees and in small holes and rodent burrows in the ground, However, they can and do build nests in cracks and voids and the space inside a mailbox is, for the insects, a private secluded location. Unfortunately, mailboxes are accessed almost daily and yellowjackets, which are highly aggressive and territorial, will interpret the trespass as a threat to their nest — and these ornery insects won’t hesitate to sting, and because their stingers don’t have barbs, a single yellowjacket can deliver multiple painful stings. As far as I’m concerned, of all the stinging insects, yellowjackets are, by far, the most aggressive and deliver a super-painful sting. If you’ve ever been stung by a yellowjacket, it’s an experience you won't soon forget.

This nest had to be treated and removed immediately! I treated the nest with a quick knockdown product that made the nest dormant almost immediately. I then safely removed and packaged the nest so I could take it with me off the property. Getting the mail should not be a risk-taking activity and I was glad that I could make the mailbox safe once again for this homeowner.

During a spring service for one of our Home Protection Plan customers in West Windosr, NJ, we found active subterranean termites in one of our termite monitors. Our termite monitors act like an early warning system to detect the presence of termites, which is fortunate for the homeowner, because the termites were chomping on our monitoring devices and not her home! The purpose of these termite monitors is to give you peace of mind. 

For an effective treatment, we’re going to drill into the concrete in the crawl space, since termite live beneath the soil, and then inject a liquid termiticide. We’re also going to treat the entire exterior perimeter of the home with this application. This product will bind to the treated area and create a protective zone that the termites can’t detect. The termites will come in contact with the termiticide as they go about their normal routines and transfer it throughout their colony. In a short amount of time, the termites are exterminated and the home is protected for years to come!

Even though the weather outside has been chilly, this hasn't stop yellow jackets from thriving at this home in West Windsor, NJ. Yellow jackets will die off from weather exposure only if there's been 5-7 days of weather under 45 degrees in a row. Unfortunately, over this past week, the weather was cold for two days, and over 50 degrees for the rest of the week! So they were out and about, although a little lethargic. 

We grabbed our extendable pole, attached a knockdown aerosol application to it, and injected it directly into the nest. We then waited a few moments, and then applied a knockdown liquid application. Both of these treatments will rapidly exterminate the yellow jackets. After several moments went by we removed the nest and disposed of it properly.
