According to the Global Lyme Alliance, children are at the highest risk of Lyme disease, since they love to roll around in the grass, run in wooded areas and explore the great outdoors. Here are a few tips to prevent ticks from crawling on your children.

  1. Perform Daily Tick Checks Ticks like to hide in body folds, so pay particular attention to the navel, groin, under the armpits, behind the ears, nape of the neck, in their hair and scalp. Also, check where underwear elastic waistbands touch the skin.
  2. Wear Light Clothing -  Wearing light-colored clothing is an easy way to spot ticks. Also, tuck their pants into their socks and have them wear a hat.
  3. Apply Repellants with DEET - Pediatricians recommend that tick repellants used on children should contain up to 30% DEET or 10% Picaridin. Treat your kid's clothes with an effective tick repellent that kills ticks on contact.
  4. Wash Up - Once they come inside, have them immediately take a bath or shower to wash away any unattached ticks. Also, throwing their clothes into a hot dryer for 10-15 minutes before washing them will kill any lingering ticks.

Following these important tips may be the only thing that stands between your child and Lyme's Disease.
