Title: Residential Sales Inspector

Hometown: Ocean Township

Rhett Cowley from Cowleys Pest Services
Rhett Cowley, an Ocean Township resident, is a residential property inspector. Rhett performs all types of property inspections for homeowners, including insects, rodents, and mold. One of his most important functions is termite inspections for prospective homebuyers. Rhett is a skilled and thorough inspector who enjoys the challenge of digging below the surface and solving problems, especially when a homeowner is concerned about a possible infestation but can’t pinpoint the evidence. Inevitably, Rhett locates the problem, and the homeowner is well on his way toward having his or her peace of mind restored. Rhett approaches every inspection with the same care as if he were dealing with his own home. He enjoys advising prospective customers on the particular issues they are facing, explaining their options, and, the most satisfying part -- eliminating their problems for good.

Rhett grew up in the family business. He has been working at Cowleys on and off since high school in 2009, and he has first-hand experience with delivering all of Cowleys’ various services offered to homeowners. Rhett is a 2013 graduate of Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the Jack Welch School of Business. He also was a defensive back for SHU’s football team. In high school, Rhett was one of the Jersey Shore’s standout players. He was team captain and named to both the All-Conference and All-Leagues team. Rhett brings the same discipline and perseverance that is takes to succeed in athletics to work.

Immediately before joining Cowleys, Rhett ventured outside the family business, working as a staffing manager for an accounting personnel agency in northern New Jersey. However, the lure of working with his brother and the rest of his family at the Jersey Shore proved too much to resist. Since joining us full-time in 2016, Rhett has become an invaluable contributor to the Cowleys team. Rhett feels a special personal obligation to represent Cowleys considering that the company name and his last name are one and the same. Rhett especially enjoys working side-by-side with his older brother, Drew. The two are inseparable and have always shared a healthy competition, spurring each other on to do their best. Just as there is a tremendous synergy with the brothers and co-owners, Bill and Drew (“Big” Drew), Drew and Rhett are the upcoming dynamic Cowleys duo for the next generation.

Rhett is a licensed NJDEP commercial pesticide applicator, holding Core certification and two Category certifications, the 7A certification for general and household pest control, and the 7B certification for termites & other wood destroying insects. During his spare time, Rhett likes to play and watch sports, and is an avid Jets fan. He especially likes golfing. During the summer, he spends every free moment that he can enjoying the sun and surf of the Jersey Shore.

Give Rhett a raise he was thorough and didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need. He was there for a termite inspection in a house that I am selling. Buyers attorney took the liberty of saying their was a termite infestation and buyers inspector said their was visible evidence of termite tubes and staining. As I suspected there was nothing.

Is a gem. He listened to my concerns related to my squirrel problem, He set the traps and was just very kind and considerate. Thankfully, five squirrels were trapped and released. So grateful for Stephon and Cowley's. The cleaning crew was Stephon and Tom. They arrived on time and cleaned the area in the 1 hour they told me it would take. They both were very friendly and polite. Cowley's truly is the best and I would highly recommend them for any job I have. Cowley thank you so much for your efficiency, excellent work, friendly staff, and quick turnaround. I am truly pleased and I highly recommend your services.

Attic Blow-in Cellulose Insulation in Howell, NJ

Previously, we conducted a thorough inspection of a homeowners attic in Howell, NJ and reached the conclusion that it was under-insulated. We brought this to the homeowner's attention and, after thinking about for a little while, wanted Cowleys to add cellulose blown-in insulation in his attic.

Blown-in cellulose insulation is used to fill the attic to the recommended insulation levels. The blanket of insulation will create a thermal barrier and help keep the home more comfortable and efficient. Cellulose also has higher R-value than other insulation and instantly improves home energy performance. Our cellulose insulation is treated with non-toxic borate, giving it the highest Class-1 fire safety rating and creating incredible resistance to mold and pests. Not only does cellulose insulation efficiently optimize energy-usage, but it is made primarily from recycled newspaper, making it the perfect choice for environmentally conscious property owners.

Once we arrived, we re-inspected the attic and then began adding approximately 10 inches of blown-in cellulose insulation. Now the home has an extra layer of insulation to prevent against heat loss.

How Cowleys Removes and Excludes Raccoons in Spring Lake, NJ

Recently, we went out on a service call for a resident in Spring Lake, NJ who was having a problem with a raccoon in his attic. How'd he know it was a raccoon? As his son was cleaning the attic one evening he spotted the little fella running around!

As we inspected the rooftop we spotted raccoon hair and paw prints near an attic vent cover. This was how the raccoons were able to enter the attic.

We placed several baited traps near the main access point, installed an attic vent cover, and then attached a one-way to the attic vent cover. The vent cover prevents raccoon and other pesky, nuisance wildlife from entering your home through the roof vents. They are constructed out of heavy-duty 18 Gauge galvanized metal mesh that the wildlife are unable to chew through.

The one-way is a device that allows the raccoons to safely leave the attic and prevents them from getting back in. By installing a vent cover over every single attic and static vent on the roof and placing a one-way over the main access point we are forcing the raccoon to exit through the one-way and into the baited traps. Once the raccoon is safely captured, we'll relocate it to a new, humane location and then sanitize the attic area.
