What is the Sentricon System?
The Sentricon system is a targeted slow-bait system designed to kill the colony. And killing the colony is key. As long as a termite colony is thriving, the nearby structure remains at serious risk for termite damage. Individual foraging termites, of which there are thousands, are dispensable. Sentricon has protected more than 2 million structures including the Statue of Liberty, the White House, Independence Hall, and other national treasures. After more than decade of proven performance, the Sentricon system has proven itself as the gold standard for termite baiting systems colony.
Developed by Dow AgroSciences, Sentricon is sold only through authorized pest control firms. Cowleys Termite and Pest Control Services is proud to be an authorized Sentricon dealer. As an authorized dealer, Cowleys has received extensive training on the installation and monitoring of the system and must adhere to rigid quality assurance standards required by the manufacturer. Any termite system is no better than the pest control service that installs and monitors it. Dow Agrosciences protects the Sentricon name by screening pest control companies and allowing only the best to be dealers.
The Sentricon System is backed by independent research
According to the University of Kentucky Department of Entomology, the Sentricon Termite Colony Elimination System is the most extensively tested professionally installed monitoring and baiting termite system on the market today. Research from at lest 30 independent universities and the U.S. Department of Agriculture have established that the Sentricon system is not only highly effective in termite control, but has stopped termite damage that could not be controlled with conventional liquid methods because of certain construction complexities.
Sentricon is “green.”
Sentricon is environmentally friendly. If “green” is a top priority in chooing the right termite control product, Sentricon may be the one for you. Because of the strategically placed monitoring stations, bait is applied only when and where needed. As a result, the Sentricon system uses only a few grams of active ingredient. Sentricon's bait is an insect growth regulator that stops the molting process in the termite's life cycle. It is specific to termites and has not effect on mammals. Kids and pets are safe.
The bait in the Sentricon system was the first termite treatment active ingredient accepted for registration by the EPA under the strict requirements of the Reduced Risk Pesticide Initiative. Sentricon is safe for human health as well as other non-targeted organisms such as birds, fish, and plants. Moreover, Sentricon does not contribute to dangerous groundwater contamination.
Also, Sentricon is a proud recipient of the Presidential Green Chemistry Award. This Award, one of the federal government top environmental honors, recognizes environmentally responsible chemistry. Sentricon is the only termite control product to have received this award.
Sentricon has a three-step process to protect structures from termites
Termite control with the Sentricon system is a three-step process: (1) initial monitoring to detect and identify localized termite activity; (2) delivery of the bait; and (3) subsequent monitoring to provide ongoing protection of your home.
Monitoring: Termites are detected by installing plastic monitoring stations around the perimeter of the building as well as in suspected termite foraging areas. The station contains a hollow cylinder , capable of holding two untreated pieces of wood, which is used as a monitoring device for the presence of termites. The pest control service is responsible for periodically inspecting these stations.
Bait Delivery: When termites are found in a monitoring station, the wood is replaced with a perforated plastic tube that contains bait containing a slow-acting termite growth inhibitor. Termites feeding on the wood are carefully dislodged and placed within the Baitube. They tunnel out and reunite with the colony, leaving behind a scent that attracts more termites to the bait. Additional stations containing wood and installed near the Baitubes to promote additional “hits.” Inspection continues until no more live termites are discovered.
Continued Monitoring: Once termites are no longer found, the baits are once again replaced with wood pieces for continued monitoring. To properly protect a structure from re-infestation by new colonies or previously suppressed ones, ongoing monitoring at periodic intervals is required.
