A new application of GPS technology, TRAPSMART, takes the guesswork out of when an animal has been trapped by offering real-time notification.

We are always looking to integrate new technologies that allow us to do our work more efficiently and with better results.   These devices have helped us in our mission to be as caring as possible to the captured animal by electronically observing every trap we set.  The sooner these animals are relocated, the better it is for them and for the homeowner.  There is less on an opportunity for the animal to hurt itself and the onus is taken off the homeowner to keep an eye on the cages between technician visits.  Quick removal and relocation avoids a host of problems, no animal should needlessly suffer.  And no homeowner wants to hear the desperate sounds of a struggling animal.  The expedited response rates from this GPS system have reduced stress levels for everyone.  It’s a great example of showing how a new technology can be used to improve even age-old tasks like animal trapping.

When a Cowleys Nuisance Wildlife Technician is texted on his Smartphone, it may not be his spouse reminding him to bring home milk.  The text may not even be coming from another person.  Rather, once a wild animal is caught in a trap, the wildlife tech gets a signal that an animal has been caught in a trap and that it needs to get picked up.  These immediate alerts ensure that the amount of time that an animal spends in the cage is reduced to a bare minimum.  The objective is to have the animal humanely relocated and released as soon as possible.
