Serious pigeon problem on local docks.
Atlantic Highlands Harbor Commission recently called with a serious pigeon problem on their dock near the gas filling station. Pigeons and sea gulls were pooping all over the boats that were docked there causing a real health issue. They defecate all over docks and boats where people walk and touch. Their droppings have an estimated 60
diseases associated with them. They use the docks to drop shells to crack them open to eat what is inside. while they are eating or when they are done they poop everywhere. The smell is horrible, it attracts flies and other birds and is unpleasant for boat owners and their families, especially children playing on the dock.
After surveying the areas and giving thought to all their options, trapping them and removing the population seem to fit their needs and wants the best. We trapped close to 40 pigeons in one week and the population is down to near zero.
The pigeons have been successfully rehomed to a pigeon farm.
